From the runways to the streets, the bold lip trend is in full force. And come spring, this fiery look will only get hotter. From shocking purples to outrageous oranges, ladies have been trading in their usual neutrals for show stopping hues.

We spoke to Inglot makeup artist Hayden Tee for tips on making your pucker unforgettable (and not downright terrifying!). Here’s her expert advice and 7 brands with colors that’ll bring all eyes to your pout!

Betty Confidential: We’ve seen the shocking lip trend for spring everywhere from magazines to the runways. How can women wear it out without scaring people?

Hayden Tee: I urge all women to commit to the bold lip colors of this season. Makeup is an attitude, so wear your lipstick with confidence and don't let the lipstick wear you.

BC: When should we be wearing it: is this a “party-only” type trend or can we pull it off in the office?

HT: The new lip trends can be adapted to any situation. For a conservative look, use your strong lip color as the only makeup focus with little to no color on other facial features. To 'Power Dress' use your stronger, deeper lip color to convey strength and assertiveness. For your crazy night on the town, embrace the bright (almost neon) colors hitting the catwalks and fashion spreads this spring.

BC: How can we find the shade that is right for our specific skin tones? Which shades work best for fair/medium/dark skin?

HT: Darker skin is the perfect base to take advantage of the cool toned purples. Medium skin can carry most of the reds and oranges and fair skin looks stunning with the bright pastel shades only make sure the color has a good clean white base (pastel) that will keep the bright color true.

BC: What’s the best way to apply bold lipstick? Is there any way for women who aren’t completely comfortable with super bright lips to tone it down a bit?

HT: You can always sheer the color out with a little gloss or lip treatment if you want to tone down the impact of your lip color. Alternatively, you can use a nude shade of lip liner to achieve your desired level of color. This isn't a 'Get out of jail for free card'. Go on, celebrate the color!
