Did you know that Lily Allen gave birth to a daughter on November 25? Because she did. But no worries if you didn’t know; the singer has been keeping pretty much everything about her new little one under wraps, so you’re probably not alone. In fact, Lily has even been keeping the baby girl’s name a secret. We can understand why; celebrity is hard enough to deal with on its own, let alone when you’re the child of someone famous.
But of course there’s always someone who spills the beans, and in this case, it’s none other than… Lily’s mum! According to UK tabloid The Sun, film producer Alison Owen, who also happens to be Lily Allen’s mother, accidentally revealed the baby’s name on Facebook over the holidays: Ethel Mary. Ah, the dangers of social media! The Daily Mail also reported that a friend of Lily’s husband, painter and decorator Sam Cooper, confirmed the baby’s name on Twitter, so it looks like that’s that.

Personally, we think it’s kind of cute that Lily named her daughter Ethel; it’s an old-fashioned name, as well as a unique one (apparently only three babies were given the name last year). The name is of English origin, and it means “noble.” Many of the UK's papers are pointing out the possibility that she may have been named for Ethel Skinner, a character on the British soap opera EastEnders.
In any event, we wish a belated congratulations to Lily and Sam on little Ethel Mary, and we hope they had a lovely first holiday and New Year as a family!
